Is it possible that we don’t know what Peace is? Not just because its seeming opposite is war and there’s plenty of that around…but because our definitions fall short.
Peace is an emotional state. Wha???????
Now if we turn to dictionaries to find out what we’re to believe of our experience Peace seems to be awfully quiet, calm, subdued, weak and so downright PC as to elicit deep boredom and frustration. The shackles of suffocation. Why is this road so damned unattractive?
Compromise, be quiet, put others first (at the expense of self) and don’t rock the boat kind of peace is based on competition and comparison. Competition and comparison which at its logical extreme becomes a survival of the fittest dynamic (and look at how that is playing in the world). And one way we’ve learned to survive is to shut up and be ‘peaceful’. That peace doesn’t work any more than war does. No wonder Peace as we define it has no balls.
Where do we turn? If I think back to some time in my life – we’ve all had them – when I felt peace, even momentarily…. it wasn’t because there wasn’t a war coming down around my head. It was something more indescribable, internally generated and complex. A feeling of knowing. A feeling of being. A feeling of having. ENOUGH…at least for the moment. A feeling of being right in one’s skin, right in the moment, right in the long view and the short view all at once, right where one should be. A feeling of being safe.
What if real PEACE is dynamic? What if PEACE becomes a secure platform upon which to create whatever one wishes in safety? What if real PEACE is exciting? What if PEACE is not the desired – but dull – end… but a real and very new beginning?
If everyone has their basic survival needs met – Food, Water, Shelter, Healthcare & Education – what couldn’t we do? Having Enough.
Knowing Enough – for surely we have the knowledge and capabilities to solve most of our problems if we had the unified will to do so. Just look at what happens around disasters, people run forward to help – unconditionally. Technologies evolve to meet needs. We can be awesome when we marry our heads to our motivating hearts.
Being Enough. A feeling that when the first 2 Enough’s are generated this experience becomes normal.
PEACE will be amazing.
